UAE Ranks First Globally in Telecommunication Infrastructure Index: A Milestone in Digital Transformation
The UAE continues to lead the world in digital innovation, with the Telecommunications & Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) announcing significant achievements in the United Nations E-Government Survey 2024. This prestigious survey emphasizes the critical role of governments in accelerating digital transformation and integrating AI to drive sustainable development. The UAE’s performance highlights its commitment to digital excellence on the global stage.
UAE Tops the Telecommunication Infrastructure Index
The standout achievement for the UAE in the 2024 survey is its first-place ranking in the Telecommunication Infrastructure Index (TII), scoring a perfect 100%. This index reflects the nation’s world-class telecommunication infrastructure, underscoring its leadership in delivering robust and reliable digital connectivity. It’s a clear indicator of the UAE’s long-term investment in developing cutting-edge telecom systems that meet the needs of its citizens and businesses.
Advancements in the Human Capital Index
Another major success for the UAE is its leap in the Human Capital Index (HCI), where the country moved from 44th to 10th place globally, while also ranking first in Asia and the Arab world. This significant improvement is a direct result of the UAE’s focus on developing national talent and enhancing skills in line with the rapidly advancing technological landscape. The rise in HCI demonstrates the UAE's dedication to fostering a knowledge-driven economy and ensuring its workforce is prepared for the future.
Leadership in E-Government Development
In the E-Government Development Index (EGDI), the UAE continues its upward trajectory, ranking among the top countries with a 95% score and moving up two positions from the previous 2022 survey. The UAE’s digital government services were further validated with perfect scores in the E-Government Literacy (EGL) index and the Online Service Index (OSI). These metrics reflect the UAE's success in content provision, institutional frameworks, and the delivery of efficient online services to its citizens.
Visionary Leadership Driving Success
The exceptional results achieved by the UAE are largely attributed to its visionary leadership and decades of investment in digital infrastructure, as emphasized by Talal Belhoul Al Falasi, Chairman of TDRA. He remarked, "Today, we reap the rewards of decades of investment in telecommunications infrastructure and digital transformation."
Eng. Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, Director-General of TDRA, also highlighted how the UAE serves as an inspiring model for global digital transformation, particularly in its efforts to create smart cities and digital economies.
Pioneering Initiatives in Digital Governance
The UAE’s achievements in the survey also underscore the success of various pioneering digital initiatives. Key projects such as the UAE PASS, a digital national identity, and the U-Ask platform, powered by AI for government services, were recognized for their role in enhancing digital governance. These initiatives represent the UAE's ongoing commitment to sustainable development through technology-driven solutions.
